Hopefully this announcement will hit the AA call center and end that issue which arose when AA changed thier website a month or so ago.
This has been super frustrating for me too. The people I talk with tend to go Reservations->international reservations->AAdvantage->AAdvantage Supervisor->Mystery person. It is not until the AAdvantage supervisor does AA actually acknowledge AS elite's complimentary access to preferred seating. Of course, they are not able to place me in seat, so I am transferred to another person that 'forces' me into the seat. Takes about an hour on the phone. I have 2 more flights on AA, after that, I don't think it is worth flying them, even for the lower international mileage awards.
