There’s a large difference between manufactured spending/exploitation/bending rules and fraud/civil crimes. As you haven’t apparently haven’t noticed, no one chastised you for using your $100 certificate for a ticket which might not have been eligible. You have been criticized for other things. Big difference. I am a doctor and few things are as infuriating as someone asking far a handicapped parking sticker/letter or airline letter when one is clearly and obviously NOT warranted. That’s fraud and immoral and unethical.
As others have pointed out, being medically unable to fly is different than being medically unable to ski (I’m a skier also). If we were allowed to cancel tickets because we didn’t feel up to skiing, we should be allowed to cancel if there hasn’t been enough snow or if we just don’t feel like going anymore. None of those reasons make sense and most people who buy an airline ticket understand the non-refundable aspect. That’s just the way it is. It’s your choice to accept it or not buy airline tickets.
