The shame of declining lounge quality is on the operating airlines, not the pax. There are plenty of pax with lounge access that bring in no companion, so if the quality of lounge is based on pax traffic, the airlines should budget accordingly. If someone wants to bring in different guests at different times, I don't see how that practice can be blamed for deteriorating lounge quality.

You have forgotten to talk about "harder and harder" to get in... If I understand correctly what OP is asking about and presumably hoping to do is clear fraud in my books...
And yes, I am ready for being abused by those who argue that airlines deserve such behaviour...
