I believe this is how it works:
if you earned your status before March 31, 2012 it will expire on March 31, 2013; If after April 1, 2012 it will expire on March 31, 2014.

Status is good for the remainder of the year you earn it in
Status will be good for the entire following calendar
Status will be good for the first few months of the year following that.
So it doesn't matter when you earned your status in 2012, it will be good for the reminder of 2012, all of 2013, and the first few months of 2014. Your expiration date is not based on month and day you earned it, just the calendar year.
Maintaining Your Elite Tier
Once the Member has reached a certain Elite tier, the Member may keep such status for the calendar year in which the Elite tier was earned and the subsequent calendar year.
