I have this on my Sony A/V Receiver remote, but not the TV remote. My setup is all HDMI sources connect to the receiver which then feeds 1 HDMI input to the TV. On the A/V remote HDMI 1,2,3 are individual buttons; a shift button + those same buttons does HDMI 4,5,6.

I actually use my DirecTV remote the most -- its power button turns on the TV and Directv. Have a monster green strip that turns on the receiver when the TV turns on. And the DirtecTV remote is programmed for A/V volume - so one button and off we go. The only time I really need the 2nd remote is when I am switching inputs or to control DVD functions.

Having the HDMI buttons is definitely quicker than pushing source multiple times (I have to do this upstairs and it is annoying). But the trade-off is having a 2nd remote on the table.
