In fact, transit passengers don't normally have their luggage inspected at the transit point.
My problem is that the CX/KA schedules allowed the connection when I booked, but was then retimed to create a misconnect (requiring a rebooking and one-day stay in HKG). It has now has been retimed again to allow the connection, but now I can't get the connecting award flight I previously gave up. So I have to stay overnight (as opposed to "transit") in HKG.

Good to know. Many thanks, and I won't worry about it then.
