Best Spend for BA Flights with Visa BA Visa

I signed up for BA Visa for 50k bonus Avios and I enjoyed getting a flight from JFK > STT on AA for $10 and 20k avios

However,
I don't see myself ever booking a BA flight to gain the 2.5 avios per dollar. The BA flights all get railed by fees and surcharges (thinking LHR) by flying through the most expensive airports. Also, booking flights through partners only earn 1.25 Avios and reward flights earn 0 avios.

So this leads to my question: What are best flights, if any, to book as a US citizen via BA (not partners) to utilize the Visa 2.5 avios per dollar?

Apologies if this was answered elsewhere. I searched but was unable to find anything.
