I feel the same as the OP. Flying to DUS most months I know that every CE I book is in one of the ex-BMI aircraft and I think for CE they are under par.
If you're flying CE to DUS then going from a BA Airbus to an ex-bmi Airbus is a noticeable change for the worse.
If you are flying ex-LGW, like the OP, then going from an ageing 734 to an ex-bmi Airbus is not quite so clear-cut! Thoise 734s are not in great condition - and that's putting it mildly!
