I normally book a standard room with points and contact the property for suite upsell rates. Usually it's a reasonable premium. We try to avoid staying in the same room with kids therefore proper suites or connecting rooms is a must for us.
For booking suites fully with points consider SPG or Hyatt - Hilton is completely useless.
