Is your flight to LGA possibly oversold? If they're giving you no other consideration, the GA might be willing to make the switch so they don't have the risk that they'll need to find a paid volunteer later.
Given the booked flight is later and the oversold situation will still be unclear (if at all) and the actual GA will not likely be available, this is probably a low probability hope.
