They have got to sort out this debacle - airside transit and ground side transit - so you arrive and are in transit you have to go ground side and clear security, but if you are departing and need to move between 5A, 5B, 5C for whatever reason, you stay airside.
You do not have to go landside when connecting. Simply follow the purple Flight Connections signs, and you will stay airside, but will have to pass through connections security due to DfT requirements.
