This is fine if your TA is a person(!) but if you buy tickets from an OTA you're not usually in a position to clarify this kind of thing, at least not quickly, in my experience.
Some would say one of the main benefits of buying tickets from OTA is
not having to phone them (on an 0870 number...) during the transaction
I suspect OTA's are exactly the ones which are less likely to be upgradeable, especially if they are cheaper than the equivalent fare on ba.com.
