No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Not all Travel Agent WT+ Tickets are Upgradeable
With the recent changes to MFUs allowing travel agent tickets to be purchased, I recommended that a relative book WT+ rather than WT for her next trip with the hope that Avios CW availability would open up.
She handed over the extra cash to her travel agent, and I kept a close eye on BA.com for the CW seats to open up close to departure.
These have now appeared at T-48, but it turns out (after speaking to BA) that the ticket purchased from the travel agent has a "bulk tour" fare basis and can't be upgraded, despite the fact it is a regular ticket on 125 stock, and is not a group booking - just a regular PNR with a solo traveller on BA metal.
Now I am sure this restriction is in the BA T&Cs, but wanted to flag up the fact that what appears to be a "regular T class ticket from a travel agent" may not be eligible for MFU, and the hours I have spent in vain searching for availability will count for nought against the complaints from the passenger when I pick her up!
