i wonder if the barcode on my 2013 card is wrong -- since i switched out my 2012 card, the kiosks have stopped activating on it.

Interesting. In all my years of flying, I never once used nor knew what the barcode was for on the back of my cards. Guess I was just used to quickly typing in my conf# or SM number.
you can actually board a plane with it, if the GA believes you... scan the barcode on your card, and the reader will print out a boarding slip with your seat assignment on it. (same as if your upgrade clears just before boarding..)
