Huh? I thought tap was safe in Japan.

And what about tea shops? The hard core pu erh lover in me has been excited-to-bits about trying new teas, but it just hit me---that might be playing with dynamite.
Tea has to be boiled to make it!

Soups in restaurants? My paranoia is reeling. (Of course, I could just go for an all-beer visit, but it might be nice to recall some of the trip upon returning home.)
Most soup is cooked.

It's been too long, I don't recall. Google says it's not safe, though. The people understand that, though, so you don't have the problem you have in some places where the locals say it's safe when it isn't.

I do think you're being a bit paranoid, though--things fresh off the stove are safe unless the utensils are contaminated.
