Keep checking the seat maps, especially at the points where elites may be upgraded from choice coach seats (120, 72, 48 and 24 hour marks before the flight.) You may find better seats and be able to switch.
On the other hand there may be some advantages for a family in the back. As an MVP you will board after F and Golds but ahead of general boarding. You will probably find that convenient overhead space in the back of the plane is easier to grab at that point than in the front, especially for several people together. Your family will also have easier access to the lavs when the carts are in the aisle.
Finally some perspective: It took a little less than 3 weeks for you to get something that you didn't have to do anything to earn. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me. YMMV.
