I don't consider
loulou8 a complainer, but a guest w/ a legitimate question. If it were me, I'd be po'd at the property. Not so much for paying for the extra guest as that's indicated policy, but if I were charged & my colleague wasn't, I'd be asking the exact same question as to why they got a free ride for the extra guest.
I can't totally speak for her (just as you can't), but I think
loulou8 would be satisfied w/ an explanation from the property on why it is inconsistently applying the charge - ie, charging one guest for additional guest in lounge when not charging another, given both have same status & same # of people listed in reservation (1). If one had 2 listed in the resssie or one had status & one didn't, that would make more sense. But when ressie & status is the same, it doesn't.
FWIW - I'm surprised you're blaming the guest, given you're the one who's always touting consistency & Marriott following its rules
