They've been doing that for at least a year and seems to be very consistent worldwide on this (more so than QF). I'm one of those who prefer it stuck to my passport as I'm less likely to lose my passport than my boarding card.
My passport is already a dog's breakfast after it goes through so many embassies and handling agents so a bit of glue isn't going to make much difference as it goes into its own pouch where the glue doesn't cause other things to be sticky.
