Homewood's (Tahoe) lift tickets are dirt cheap, and houses on the west shore of tahoe nearby are often cheaper than the north shore areas. The terrain is actually quite good and it has probably the second best views of lake tahoe in the area. There are a lot of families who stick to the groomers, but if you're a more advanced skier you can often find much more untracked stuff than in more heavily trafficked resorts.
