The airlines know everyone wants inexpensive fares. Which, is true. With that said, they think most would give up other "amenities" to have an inexpensive fare. They just keep cutting other things or add fee's for everything that one would take for granted. Example of this is, is meal service in coach on domestic flights of ATL-HNL, DFW-HNL, etc. I dont know about you folks, I really haven't seen airfares change too much for my leisure destinations over the years, whether it is Florida or Hawaii.
The first time I flew for vacation travel was on 1988. We went to Florida. We flew PVD-RSW (via RDU) and paid $230 RT. Good price at the time. Fast forward to 2011, PVD-MCO (NS) was $250 RT. Between 1988 and 2011 we did other trips to Florida. Only once we paid $300/person. School vacation week. On AA in 1991, we received breakfast in coach for our first leg which was PVD-RDU. Heck, your lucky to get a cube of ice now.
When talking vacations, we always talk about Hawaii. What about Hawaii airfares over time? My in laws flew PVD-HNL, RT in 1984. The paid $900/Person RT. In 1994, I paid $850/Person RT. Last year, we paid $850/Person RT. One would think airfares on a route such as PVD-HNL would be alot more than the 1984 fare my in laws paid. Just with inflation, let alone everyone at the airline making more money, should have driven up those fares. The best airfare I ever got for Hawaii was in both 1997 and 2004. We paid $550/person. Boy, did I jump on that.
The thing is, bring some food for your coach travel. If you receive a meal of some sort, great. If you don't, ten or so hours on a plane without food could get very ugly at any point. You can survive but your not really starting your vacation of right starving....lol Have a great time!
