Almost every time I go through LHR T5 "fast track", I skip under the ropes and go into the normal lanes. Fast track just doesn't work there. If they open it up even more, the queues will be twice as long as the other lanes.
My last Fast track in 2012 (with a J ticket) ended up with the scanner walking off her post yelling about a certain set of passengers (including the woman just ahead of me in line) and how she couldn't take it any more and we had to wait for someone to take over her line. Normal lines would have been faster.
