Well, not to pick at the OP, but he/she didn't indicate the stopover that was wanted in AMS. If that's the case, miles are best.

I do hate threads where we have to pull information. On its face, I would have bought that ticket. WIth the stopover, that's a different story, as I just did this for my parents. EWR-CDG (stopover) BKK-KTM-BKK-FCO-EWR.
Ticket would've cost $14K in business, but cost 120,000 miles and $220.
