Of course it is always easier to just use roaming.

However an "international plan" could be 60X more expensive than using a local SIM card.

AT&T voice roaming package for rest of world: 1.20 - 2USD/min

HK PCCW Global Reach SIM card 0.0325USD(0.25HKD)/min local or to 30+ countries including USA

Data: local SIM card 10USD/week unlimited. Roaming???????
