You will not find better or more authentic food than at the high-end resorts. Krua Phranang at Rayavadee is probably my favorite venue for Thai food in the world.
Both Phuket and Krabi would be perfect for sightseeing and outings to cultural sites, as well as for speedboat excursions to islands.
Definitely spend at least a few days in Bangkok for sightseeing and the delicious food.
