I recently found myself actually hoping for a 143er when I saw the number of passengers on the ops agent's screen. Six more empty seats means a greater chance of an empty middle or even an empty half-row. That's the small consolation prize for being squeezed into a tighter row.

But you only benefit from this when Southwest does not fill the plane, i.e., when they are getting little or no benefit from the reconfiguration.
