If you someone says he wasn't being sarcastic, take him at his word, meaning you did take it the wrong way, not may have. No shame in doing so, in written form it's quite easy for something to come across or be interpreted in a different spirit than intended. I've certainly misinterpreted things and have been misinterpreted.

Personally, I find EF very helpful for pricing, flight options, and flight info. When I'm planning an xONEx, I want to know which my options are into or out of a city, or between cities, and I pay attention to flight times, durations, and equipment to make choices. I use the OneWorld interactive map to see what routes are available into or out of a city, then EF to see flight times, duration, mileage, equipment, etc.

I do wish EF had an option for "all flights into/out of" an airport or city.
