I've never been to London either... can you see the big fireworks show from any of the Hilton properties? Do any have a NYE viewing party or something? Taking a fireworks cruise on the river was suggested as an alternative to camping out 6 hours in a spot on the street to see the fireworks at midnight.

We are a family with 2 young adults (20 and 17), planning a one week London based trip after Christmas 2013. Open to any advice in general. TIA.
I can't speak for New Year's Eve, but we were in London last year for the Jubilee Regatta on the Thames and stayed at the Hilton Tower Bridge.
The property had wristbands (limit of 2 per room I think) that gave us access to a special area. We almost felt guilty, some people had slept out overnight, in the rain, while we watched on tv from the comfort of our room until the boats were around the Waterloo bridge, then ventured down, and were quickly admitted into the area, and found spots with great views of the river--and the regatta!

Since there are NYE fireworks near the London Bridge, I'd assume this property does something similar, but you could easily email/call to find out.

It is an easy 3-5 min walk to the London Bridge Tube station. We've done Tube from LHR, changing at Green Park to the Jubilee line, without incident (one large suitcase and one backpack each). On our first trip we arranged a car service, which I think was GBP 40 or so each way.
