I was just driving by the location where the St Regis Jakarta is being built. The location is, er, how shall I put it, TERRIBLE. It's by the main arterial road (Gatot Subroto) and nowhere near anything of any interest. Also it looks a long way from being finished.
Looking at the website it says 1/1/2016 and the following:
Rising above the city’s prestigious financial district, The St. Regis Jakarta is a beacon of refinement amid international banks, multinational companies, and embassies. Boutiques, elegant restaurants, and stunning architecture are also nearby.
Well, firstly it's nowhere near the financial district (20mins+ by taxi). The only thing of any note nearby is the Indonesian Military Museum. Secondly there are no embassies in that area, or malls.
Thirdly it is on a road with almost permanent traffic, and to get anywhere will involve a taxi journey sitting in traffic. For those from the UK, imagine if they built a St. Regis located directly by the M25!
