Went through this about 10 days ago. You still have to wait for your bag "to come through". The procedure is:

1) Scan your boarding pass. If you have a bag it will tell you to wait in that area until your name comes onto a screen.

2) Once your name comes up, you can proceed to the agent that will check your BP and let you into the customs hall.

Overall nicer than the pick up / recheck, but I still had to wait almost 20 minutes until I could enter the customs hall.
