I flew on 9W (Jet Airways) in Economy from JFK to DEL (with a stop over in Brussels) several years ago. Maybe because the 2 legs were longer-haul flights, the food service was decent; IFE excellent (personal video screens with a wide selection of movies & music); and flight attendants very pleasant, although not too familiar with the alcohol service. (request for a gin & tonic, and on the return leg, for a small cognac were met with befuddlement; but once I pointed out what I was after, was served promptly & politely). The majority of passengers were of Indian origin (as I am), and generally it was a perfectly fine experience. On the other hand, I have grim memories of Air India (which I avoid like the plague) flights full of Indian passengers with kids running rampant through the aisles, and restrooms becoming foul within a few hours of being in flight. But I've never experienced the odor issue the OP did. The main issue I've experienced with the bulk of passengers being Indian is the rush to board, regardless of what group is being called, and I think I've generally only seen that in Frankfurt (boarding LH to DEL).
