I think rossmcd posted it well in that you always get a Y or J ticket for the domestic sector for a PAID CE ticket (and which should allow you access as it's a Business UK Fare). From what I can see the problem seems to lie with the Avios tickets and the U booking class redemption is what seems to always cause a problem with 'computer says no'.
Yes the U fare class seems to be the problem. MMB recognises it as giving lounge access whereas the lounge agents computer doesn't.
