As an aside, can you credit any EK flights to QF, or just QF codeshares?

Either way, I'm not QF miles are that valuable. I credited a LHR-SYD-LHR on BA to Qantas, because it was deep discount Y and Qantas offered full mileage against BA's 25%.

The miles sat unused for a couple of years as I tried to find a good value redemption. Because of the way the awards work, there didn't seem to be much of a sweet spot in Europe. Short distance routes with high fares seemed to be about the best.

In the end, I used them on Air Berlin KGS-ZRH flight about a week before they were due to expire. At 1199 miles, it just sneaks inside Zone 2. Then I was hit with an extra charge for booking by phone cos it couldn't be booked online.

I got about £70 value from the miles in the end. With hindsight, I would rather have had the 25% BA miles...
