FCO; Transfer from T3 to T1, With a Twist

I asked this on another forum but I am hoping to get some responses from the experienced FTers on this forum! ^

I am toying with the possibility of taking a flight between FCO and VCE instead of a train.

We are landing at FCO on an Air Canada flight at 10AM with ONLY carry-on. No checked luggage.

However, the Alitalia flight would be booked separately.

We would need to get from our arrival @ T3 to T1 and do the following:

- Pass immigration

- Transfer to Terminal 1

- Check into our flight

- Check our carry-on luggage (it won't fit into Alitalia's carry-on limitations)

- Get through security

The only Alitalia flight options we have is either @ 1:15PM or much later @ 4:10PM. Presumably the Alitalia boarding time is at 12:45PM.

If our incoming flight is an hour late (just giving a buffer here), would there be enough time to accomplish this all in time for the 1:15PM flight?? That would give us just under 2 hours. At best, we would have about 3 hours.

Would we be able to go to check in on the web and gate-check our luggage instead of exiting the airport and then checking in again?

Your help would be appreciated!
