Restrospectively claiming Exec club miles

I've hit a bit of a brick wall and I'm stumped so looking for some help.

I'm an Exec Club card holder and recently flew EDI/LGW/TPA then TPA/LGW/GLA. The flights were booked with my exec club number and miles have credited as expected. So far so good.
Hubby also flew with me and has no Exec Club membership so on our return we decided to create one and apply for the miles to be applied retrospectively.

Account was created ok however to claim the points I need the ticket number.
I no longer have the emails, only the boarding passes however BA say this is no good. I have the flight booking reference number however, again, BA say this is useless. They advise they can no longer pull the booking from my account so I cannot have the points credited.

Can anyone help - it seems crazy that I have boarding passes, booking references and a clear display on my Exec club account of the flights however BA is saying that's not sufficient proof to get the points awarded on hubby's new account.

Lesson learned, I should have retained the emails, I will know next however I was naive enough to think the record on my BA exec account would be sufficient.

Thanks
