Like you, I fly EK a fair bit and find the product very consistent across all the cabins. But I have also come to set my expectations according to the cabin I'm in.

What really stuck with me on my early Y flights with Emirates (including the first one in 1999 when I was still at school) was how brilliant their service was, considering we were in cattle class.
Your comment about setting expectations is an excellent point. My experiences from previous flights probably set my expectations so high that what was in truth a mediocre flight service came across as something far worse.
