I suspect the resistance was because she didn't know where the field was. Is there any sort of command we can give the agents to enter this?
Maybe the magic words are "Known Traveler"? My recent experience for a travel agent-booked reservation:

Attempt 1, call to 1K desk

Me: I'd like to add my trusted traveler number to an existing reservation.
Agent: Your 1K number is already in there.

(Mobile BP still shows 016x0)

Attempt 2, transfer to Web Support

Me: I'd like to add my trusted traveler number to an existing reservation.
Agent: I'm not sure we can see that information, but I will try. [Placed on hold for about 5 minutes while the agent unchecked and checked me back in]

(Mobile BP still shows 016x0)

Attempt 3, call to 1K desk

Me: I'd like to add my known traveler number to an existing reservation.
Agent: I can certainly help with that. What's the number? [Types for about 30 seconds]

(Mobile BP now shows 016x3)

Perhaps it was also a case of hang up and call again.
