You might get more and better responses if you were a bit more specific about the types of activities that you consider to be "fun."
I would second the recommendation above about Sicily. Siracusa, Agrigento, Palermo, Taormina, Cefalu, Etna area and Ragusa are some of the worthy destinations there.
The Amalfi Coast (particularly Positano and Ravello) is a delight.
Driving a car around Tuscany and Umbria is a can't miss option, especially if you enjoy wine.
The lake region in the north is special. Como is a personal favorite.
For great scenery, good hiking and fine food, check out the Cinque Terre.
And of course you will want to consider the big 3 -- Rome, Florence and Venice.
Above all, don't try to do too much. Spend 3-4 days in chosen destinations.
