I recently flew an AMS-FCO, in O class bought from Alitalia, and their own website said something about no miles being earned (whatever the KLM website says about mileage earning may only be considered potentially accurate if it is an actual AF, KL or DL coded flight I believe. For anything else, don't rely on what the MMB says).
Incidentally, for whatever reason, my "O" class actually posted to FB as "Y", so I ended up with a full 100% earning (the return posted as "O" and was 50%, as expected).

As stated above, your earning on each segment will depend on the fare class of each particular segment. They may not all be "O", and they may not all even be in mileage earning classes.
The lesson from all this is: if mileage earning on Alitalia is crucial to you, then it's better to buy the ticket from an online agent which clearly shows you the fare classes before you commit to buying - or from Air France who will sell the same route under all AF codes (meaning that each segment is guaranteed to earn miles and level segments), rather than buying from Alitalia direct.
