Granted, I haven't flown the 78 yet but electrochromic windows and slightly better pressurization aren't exactly game-changing innovations for pax. He is obsessed with the supposed greatness from the CEO perspective of fuel savings. If he knew what people care about, it isn't fuel efficiency. People would flock to DC9s if somebody revamped the interiors to look like VX.

The people I know fall into 2 basic groups:
1) Leisure travelers who have zero allegiance to any carrier and will always buy the ticket with the lowest cost (often VX), and
2) Business travelers (upper management) who don't much care how much the ticket costs, so long as the airline delivers them on time.
Based on my own recent experience, and reports from friends, UA isn't hitting the sweet spot for either group.
