I believe it is quite common to recalculate the fare and fees when changing. Every airline does this.

So if in the meantime your fuel dump trick has expired, you will now also be charged for the fuel surcharges. Personally I would not have tried calling them, if you are unlucky they might start questioning if you are at all allowed to fly on your tricked ticket..
