For ORD you'll arrive in T5, go through customs/immigration, recheck bags right there, and then take train to T1. Even in winter weather, international flights usually aren't delayed since they leave 8-9 hours before.

You can also check out the brand new United Club in T2. It's nice but same lack of food. Free drinks though.
