For the return trip would HIGHLY recommend using the Sky Cap in Kona. Drop off your party and luggage at the HA Sky Cap booth with your id and the itinerary numbers, and by the time you get back from dropping off the rental car your bags will be all checked thru to your final destination and your boarding passes will be ready - just walk over to security. Definitely worth the tip of a few bucks a bag!
