So we (BA 287 B744 LHR-SFO) got a bit close to an AA plane (AA 399 B738 DFW-SFO I believe) on final approach (I have some pics of the AA craft, but they aren't great) so much so that we had to abort and went around for another try; FlightAware shows this quite nicely.

Would this be considered a "near miss" or whatever the correct phrase is? Or do the requirements for this on approach to parallel runways allow for much less legal separation so that this wouldn't be considered an "incident"?
