I'm looking to plan a spring vacation. I like to drive and I'm cheap. In October 2010 I took advantage of a rental car deal (Thrifty IIRC) where I picked up a car in SEA and dropped it in SFO for $1/day (plus tax). I believe the rule was you had to pick up in WA, OR or ID and drop off in CA, AZ or NV.

I would love to do a reverse type trip. The Grand Canyon and Tahoe are still on my bucket list. Maybe pick up in PHX or LAS, maybe drop in BOI.

I'm pretty flexible with vacation and I'd be flying with DL miles or credit card points. I also like to avoid tourist season, so I'm thinking late April or early May.

Anyone know when deals like this get announced and for what time frame? I've checked the websites for all of the majors and only see a NY to FL deal with National that basically just waives the one way fee.
