The main complaint was:
1. Gate agents' attitude
2. They don't care and they aren't friendly and will just do the bare minimum (even for *G)
3. They messed up and didn't transfer me properly from one standby list to another and the gate agent didn't feel like trying to get me on it and just told me to go away
4. I could have made the last flight out of the night if it wasn't for UA's incompetence

4. UA (unlike AC) has a very transparent upgrade and standby list - its on screens at every gate in SFO, and on their mobile app. Its not rocket science to look up your position on the list.
