Yep, gliding you would be closer to a 6 degree approach just to hold glide speed. This slope would get even steeper should you need to turn. Rough figures which seem to work for most aircraft is 5000 ft lost in a 360 or more pertinently for this scenario about 2500 for a 180, that is at glide speed so Sully had a little energy in hand but not much.
