Apologies if I muddy the waters, but is the bonus the OP is talking about the same as the one you get depending on the class of fare taken?

For instance, I usually fly discount business (Z) on international (non US), and this gets me 25% bounus miles in a separate line in my account. (I'd post a screen shot - but how DO you insert an image without linking it to a URL?? ). These are labelled as 'status' with the airplane symbol, and the AE page also indicates they should be status.

I must admit when I was new to the AE scheme, choosing the 'select privileges' last March was a bit of a lottery for me!!
