Recent experience of lounge access: arriving in F and departing in J?

As per the title, really...

I phoned to upgrade my LHR-AUH leg from J-F last night (as there's no F from AUH-KUL), I asked if I'd be able to use the F lounge when I arrived at AUH as I'm arriving in F and departing J only because there's no F for the onward journey. The agent apologised and said it would not be possible.

I remembered I had to book my chauffeur this morning, so called back. Out of curiosity I asked again, and was told that so long as I had my F boarding card, and explained that there was no F to KUL, I'd be allowed into the F lounge.

Who was correct? Or is it still a lottery?
