Actually not really.
NH was the launch customer for the 787, and Boeing already delayed the delivery oh the 787 for more than a year. So for this long time between the original delivery date and current schedule, there was absolutely no problem whatsoever except delay new routes like NRT-SJC.
Intra-asia already well covered by 763 no matter 787 are there or not. Domestic are also well covered by the older 763 if not 772 (not that particular old neither)
NH had not needed to phase out older planes at a later point or reactivate older planes. (e.g. 744D phase out on schedule no matter 787 are there or not)
Unlikely, as you are on an award ticket. NH won't even pay for overnight hotel for many Asia-US routes that arrive into NRT late and depart in the morning, so why would they even pay for the cost due to rescheduling ?
FYI, you can take the Cal train to Millbrae and then Bart for one stop to SFO, that would only cost $11.05.
Why would it be a headache trying to find widebody replacement ?
There are basically only 3 int'l routes use by 787, HND-FRA, NRT-SEA, and NRT-SJC. Any other routes just use 763, it is not like NH doesn't have enough 763 to cover them.
HND-FRA and NRT-SEA already replaced by 77W, NRT-SJC is cancelled probably the loads are light anyway, and already can merged the pax to NRT-SFO. Both NRT-SEA and NRT-SFO have UA operate side by side, they are in a JV and codeshare, so there is really nothing to worry about.
