Since your flights will be in separate reservations, the MCT has no bearing on what you can book, nor whether you will be protected, but is a reasonable guideline. An able bodied person should be able to make the transfer within that time under most circumstances even when the airport is busy. Therefore, your connection time should be fine if the incoming is on time. Cross your fingers!
